In order to remove particulate and impurities from water such as suspended particles, biological matter or sludge flocs, STC may propose the application of pressure filter plants, composed of closed tanks with single or a combination of filter media. There are two main typologies defined by their action on wastewater: mechanical and chemical (adsorption and reaction) and are chosen in accordance with the water characteristics.
STC has a long-term experience in the manufacture of pressure filters and their flexibility makes them suitable for a wide range of applications in the field of water and wastewater treatment.
In general, the filtering medias are sand, quartzite, anthracite and dolomite or a mix of them. However, there is a wide choice of other natural or artificial materials which can be used in special cases.
Activated carbon is a typical example of a special filtering media that can be used to remove various unwanted organic substances from water by adsorption.
The pressure filter plant can be used in many different fields, such as:
- Filtration of process water
- Filtration of drinking water
- Final filtration of wastewater
- dechlorination of water
- filtration of seawater or surface water
- removal of iron and manganese
- removal of organic compounds (pesticides, herbicides, PFAS,) from drinking water
- removal of organic compounds from wastewater (chemicals, surfactants etc.)
Pressure filters are automatically counter-washed and controlled by differential pressure instruments and can be installed as single unit or in parallel depending on the water flow rate. Typical installation is the duplex arrangement so that when one unit is in operation, the second one is in counter-washing or in stand-by.
Construction materials are selected according to the application and water quality: FRP, carbon steel (galvanized or paint coated) or stainless steel are normally used for the vessel while the piping can be either in carbon steel, stainless steel or plastic material.
The pressure vessels are made according to PED or ASME code as required.
Whenever possible the plants are skid-mounted for easy installation.
