The water softening units proposed by STC are able to remove the hardness minerals contained in water by means of an ion exchange process. Once hard water enters the resin bed of the softener, the hardness ions - mainly calcium and magnesium - are exchanged for sodium ions thus making the water soft. Once the resin in the softner is filled with hardness ions, a regeneration and a cleaning with a salt solution is necessary.
